IT says a lot about the standards Port Melbourne is seeking this season that coach Gary Ayres was dissatisfied with his team's 41-point victory over Bendigo Bombers at TEAC Oval on Saturday.

The Borough were not at their best, particularly in the first half when they fiddled and diddled with the ball.

And yet by the final siren they were almost seven goals up on the Bombers, a certain finalist.

That was largely due to midfielders Shane Valenti, Chris Cain and Sam Dwyer, all of whom had more than 30 disposals.
