Sad news with the passing of Vic 'Stretch' Aanensen
Body:

Paul Amy has reported that Port Melbourne legend Vic 'Stretch' Aanensen has died at the age of 72.

Stretch had a long battle with illness in recent times.

He is a dual JJ Liston medallist and life member of the VFA/VFL having won premierships with the Borough in the early 80s.

Stretch also was a very good cricketer too, winning premierships at the Port Melbourne Cricket Club in the Victorian Sub District Association.

I was fortunate enough to have played a few games with him in the late 90s and early 2000s from memory helping out the cricket club in the 3rds and 4ths. Always was a lovely bloke to play with, and will be greatly missed.

It is sad indeed when you lose a member of your community and even more so one of such great stature. Great to see the Port lads win in what was a big loss during the week. I've only heard good words of his gentlemanly nature during this week - a great way to be remembered even though his sporting achievements were mammoth. What year did he play for us till ? If my near half century brain is serving me correctly I reckon I saw him play.

Would be worthy for a spot in the AFL Hall of fame. (but we know that the AFL would never consider it).

* It's time to restore the VFA name.
