One of my recent complaints about the fuxturing of VFLW and VFL games promoted as double headers has been the ridiculous amount of time between each game. In a few cases we'll over an hour.
It means that instead of maximising crowds (and potentially boosting VFLW crowd numbers, many supporters choose to only attend one game.
I'm encouraged to see the that Port Melbourne this week have the VFL game on at 1:05 and the VFLW slated to start at 4:15pm hopefully keep the break down to no more than half an hour.
I do remember back when we had a Reserves / Development League that the games were fixtured a little too close together (one year the ABC TV coverage commenced with the Reserves game still in progress).. But I'd love to get back to the stage where it's a festival if footy where one game finishes and the other commences shortly afterward. It's a much better atmosphere and game day experience. The few that stick around for both games currently are left twiddling their thumbs for an hour or so.
Hopefully this weekends closer timing is a success.
As you know Port Melbourne draws support from far and wide and the extra game gives those who live a distance away extra incentive to visit Northport where they otherwise may not have bothered.

That's true, but regardless there needs to be a reason to remain at the ground. 90 minutes of no activity isn't good enough.
