This might be way out there, but I think the VFL should try and encourage TV to cover Sunday matches from next year onwards at the expense of Saturday afternoon. Why?
- Clubs dont like Saturday home games, hence the same teams tend to get coverage while others miss out. We should see more of Frankston for example.
- We should be showcasing VFL to audiences in front of big crowds. Imagine how good Frankston on a Sunday with 3,000 people would look on TV. Not half empty venues like Princes Park last Saturday arvo.
- Channel 7 dont show any AFL until 3pm, hence there is a window there for a footy telecast on Sunday at 1pm now.
- Little, if any, local footy is played on a Sunday arvo. Hence, more people at home to watch. Possibly more people tune in and realise a game is on and head along to watch the second half. Or alternatively a 1pm TV game would be able to promote the other games being played that day which would start at 2pm.
