When will a Tasmanian team play its first game?
It's set to enter the league (AFL) in 2027, playing games at Hobart's Bellerive Oval and Launceston's York Park for the first year or two of its existence until the Macquarie Point stadium is ready to go.
Like recent expansion clubs Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney, a Tasmanian team could play in the VFL in the years before it enters the big league.
What would the new team be called or look like?
It's not finalised yet, but there's a high likelihood it will be called the Devils — a nickname synonymous with Tasmanian footballing teams.
There are not many teams wearing dark green in the AFL, so a variation on the iconic 'map' guernsey could be on the cards too.
Tassie devils should not have left the VFL in the first place. Blame Scott Wade. Jack Riewoldt started of with Tassie devils as a teenager and is still kicking goals for Richmond. They got as far as a prelim final losing to Sandringham. I have no doubt they would have eventually won a VFL flag if they stayed in. North Melbourne stuffed them up. The alignment was the beginning of the end.
A Facebook group has popped up for the VFL Tassie Devils. Plus there is obviously a fair bit of content around for the Devils represented at junior levels including tasdevils.com.au
I'm not sure why there is a copyright issue with the name Tasmania Devils being a registered trademark mark owned by Warner Bros... Surely that existed when the Devils were going around in the VFL.
* It's time to restore the VFA name.
