Fair to say the umpiring in two of the three TAC Cup games yesterday at Bendigo was disgusting.
However what was disappointing is the quality of the bouncing by the umpires. I'm all for the recall policy, but unfortunately at lower levels of footy where the umpires are no where near as talented at it and are more often than not dealing with rough surfaces, cricket wickets and the like they're going to make mistakes.
We had conservatively a dozen recalls in one game, it got to the point that they waved some as play on despite them being more crooked than ones earlier in the game that were recalled. It was embarrassing.
I'm not sure whether we've had issues in the VFL at this stage, perhaps the better bouncers are in charge of that competition. However, we can't see incidents like today's continue through the year.
If we find a strike rate of recalls to be too high, what do we do? Should the VFL/TAC adopt a ball up policy?
