Body:
Tonight is a must-win game for us if we're serious about contending for finals. Sandringham isn't fielding some stacked team full of St Kilda veterans, so injured or not we need to get the job done. Unfortunately George Grey will miss at least the next six weeks due to facial fractures suffered against Southport, but with a pair of tough away games coming up we need to bank another win.
Will be tough for the Dolphs. Dan Butler, Tim Membrey and Hunter Clark are playing for Sandy. They can win if they kick straight for a change...
Think you've gotten St Kilda's team confused with Sandringham. All three are named to play against West Coast tonight.
Well, that sucked.
Leave it to Frankston to look like a contender for a single quarter and then completely fall apart. Four goals in the first quarter and three for the rest of the game. Absolutely woeful.
I shook my head when the supporters on the hill gave them a standing ovation post-game. That right there is the problem with this club. We don't deserve finals if we're rewarding mediocrity like that.
Congrats to both our women's teams, who banked great wins this afternoon before the men's game. Our senior squad in particular had possibly their best win of the season, pushed all the way by Karingal and then completely took control in the final quarter. After a bad loss to Mornington last week, you couldn't ask for a better response. Just thought I'd give a shoutout to the girls because I expect the club won't even give a mention to them.
Frankston have now kicked 80.122 for the season . 😡
Brilliant first quarter again by Frankston, but true to form the intensity went down several notches after that. Sandy were the better team for the last three quarters, but when they went forward there was no real system and they had trouble scoring.
Seems to be too many each week not contributingfor Frankston. Owens has dropped off and not sure whats gowing on with Gown - ordinary again - only six possesions, and one goal, and baffled as to how Connor Riley gets a game. The first time I noticed him was in the second quarter when he dropped a simple chest mark, then picked the ball up and handballed it straight to a Sandy player. I rest my case.
I would love to see O'Leary played closer to goal , starting on the wing then drifting forward so he plays high half forward. We have a potent forward line but the delivery to them is often not that good, and he will hit the leading player 9 out of 10 times and would likely get a goal or two himself. Max Williams was terrific last night - his best game for a while. Fantastic in the one on one contests and got plenty of spoils in. The Frankston defence looks way more solid when hes firing.
Dont like our chances next week against Weribee. If they play to same standard as last night and keep kicking points it's likely to be a hiding.
Looks like the Sandringham/St Kilda reserves are trying for once and winning the close matches.
Werribee is going to tell us a lot about this group. If they're serious aboit playing finals they'll take their anger out on Werribee and throw the kitchen sink at them. But I'm worried this loss will have shattered their confidence.
Billy, St Kilda/Sandy were bloody awful in the first quarter - were completely outclassed. From that point Frankston ceased attacking the game and played them right into it. By the last quarter the Zebras were brimming with confidence. They're a good thing for finals now, for sure.
