VFL Round 11 Carlton vs Frankston
Body:

Good chance of Frankston knocking over Carlton today. Very weak Carlton side on paper and Frankston look near full strength.

Well that'll be the end of our chances of making the wild card I think. In front all day until the 23 minute mark of the last, ball in attack when the siren sounded.....absolutely nothing to take from the day but a 3-6 record. Bitterly disappointing after a 6 goal to 3 opening term. Calton 10.16 defeat Frankston 10.13.

That's a cruel result AJ, I'm just reflecting on Port's loss. It sounds like Frankston were just overrun at the final hurdle.

How is the Dolphins fitness?

It's a fair question NorthPort, given that we have a tendency going back to last season to fade out badly and give up leads. The boys play a fairly frenetic style with plenty of pressure on the ball carrier. It's definitely high energy stuff. Thing is though, when trailing we tend to be able to launch late comebacks too. I think a fair bit of it comes down to the youth/inexperience of the team.....being too focused on the scoreboard rather than the processes. Today, realistically we had the foot on Carlton's throats at quarter time with a 6 goal to 3 quarter.....then we kick 0.6 to 4.4 in the second and let them get a sniff. I commented to my son at the time that we were probably going to pay for the inaccuracy, and we sure did. At no point during the day again were we able to put any real scoreboard pressure on them, and eventually our defences cracked enough to let them through. A ,lot of these Carlton blokes are league players, you can't just keep giving them opportunities or they will hurt you eventually.

Frankston are not far off the pace - they really should have beaten Wiili at Kars Street early in the season but for shocking inaccuracy and today we beat 3rd placed Box Hill - they just need to learn how to win which is not easy - it's all about confidence and belief but they'll get there if they can keep the playing group together

Williamstown and werribee flying the flag for the old vfa teams. Both going great. Frankston are improving and can knock off Footscray next week. Hoping Preston can chalk up a win over Collingwood today at Cramer street.

In round 13, Frankston have to travel to Geelong to play them on a Friday night - how unfair is that? The Frankston blokes have to work while the Cats, being professional footballers, can have the feet up all day. Its hard enough going to Geelong but with the odds stacked against you like that it makes it doubly difficult.

Was planning on making the trek to geelong for that game, but thanks to bus replacements it would mean a total of 7-ish hours on public transport to get there and back. Not happening. spent almost 5 hours on public transport just to get to princes park and back... a huge lack of night games at skybus for the second half of the season too. really disappointing to see.

Bus replacements are a real turnoff. They seem to be never ending. I have not bothered to go to a couple of VFL games that I would be there with bells on normally and decided against it due to bus replacements, especially as some games were a midday start. I plan to go to Frankston v Footscray on Saturday.

I'm taking the young fella over to Geelong.....we're making a night of it and going over on the ferry, then driving home after it. If anyone from Frankston is interested, let me know.

Wally, you make a good point that I hadn't considered, yeah it is a bit unreasonable to expect the amateur blokes to play on a Friday night over there. But I'm sure the AFL really doesn't care much about our standalone clubs. We're just in the way for them, I truly believe that.

The AFL and the AFL clubs certainly don't do the old standalone VFA clubs any favours so beating them makes it even sweeter - we have a Friday night game against Essendon in round 18 but that was at our request and you blokes have a Friday night game against Box Hill in round 22.
