Hmm, maybe the idea was from Eddie then. He made it sound like it was something Hird had mentioned, and Hird certainly went along with it, but maybe it's not actually something he's thought about particularly. Either way hopefully the board shuts it down. (It's not exactly the most important point in this discussion, but one would think Eddie, who was the one who mentioned the colors, would be able to tell that the two clubs don't actually have the same shade of blue - maybe he's too used to black and white to notice such nuances!)
Also, one addition to my answer to NorthPort above about individual performances against Box Hill - it did look to me like Archi Manton had responded well to being dropped in that although he was still kicking inaccurately, finishing with 1.2, I did think he was competing for the ball noticeably harder than he was before being dropped from the side.
Thanks very much Spiny. I'm raffling enjoying your contribution to the site. Green has been good this year and Lazzaro has been first rate in my opinion.
Good to hear that Manton contested will, even if he was inaccurate. The back coming out of the forwards line to easily had been a worry from some of the other games this season.
Surely the club will knock any talk of Melbourne using our ground on the head very quickly. That's not the direction we want to be heading in.
You're welcome, NorthPort, and thank you. Yes, Lazzaro has been great - when his signing was announced I checked out the thread about him on the North Melbourne board on BigFooty and based on what I read there (great work ethic, great VFL player, just not quite up to AFL standard), I had high expectations for him, which so far he's been delivering on.
Yes, I can't imagine that the club would let any discussion of Melbourne basing themselves at our ground continue. It does sound like it might just be an idea that Eddie came up with and that Hird made the mistake of going along with but isn't attached to. The board surely knows it would be a terrible idea, and with Melbourne primarily looking at Caulfield anyway we may never hear another mention of it.

* It's time to restore the VFA name.
