Good honest appraisal Mega. !

A few so called guns will have shaky hands this week awaiting their pay checks.

Tell Macca to have a shave & to get Riley off the wing & on to the ball.

We might be from the bush. but we ain't green

Does anyone know if Kaine Baldwin is injured or just not yet selected? I'm wondering if he should be tried up forward - he did start as a forward at Essendon before being moved back. Based on preseason, I really like his marking and attack on the ball, but in the backline he did have a tendency to turn it over too much (he improved over the course of the preseason games, though). So I think it might be worth trying him as our deepest forward and seeing if maybe he's the sort of player who can find the goals more easily than he can find teammates. The worst that can happen is that he can't kick straight for goal and/or can't manage to get out on a lead, and if that turns out to be the case, we won't have lost much by the experiment since the rest of our forwards are not great at those things either....

Gday Norman - Uncertain as theirs no longer an injury list posted so unless you know someone in the club it’s hard to gauge if theirs injuries or performance based dropping of players.

I like your idea of trying Baldwin up front, might be a good idea and need to find some answers inside 50 before it’s too late.

Good question Spiny (and welcome).  Not sure why he hasn't been selected yet.  Am I right in thinking he played in one of the practice matches?

The forward line is a worry.  Both Signarello (not in this week) and Manton and Miller all unable to put on scoreboard pressure.  I did wonder whether they should have played AJ deep in the forward at times to try and straighten the midfield up.

Hi Mega and Northport - thanks for answering. I've wondered if the injury list was going to reappear on the club website - hope they do provide it again. But I actually just came across an article from last week about Baldwin declaring Leongatha as his home club that mentioned that he missed our round 1 game with an ankle injury, so it may be that he still wasn't right to go for round 2.

He did play in all three preseason games, though I think he only played the first half in the second one. He was in defense every time, though. I was surprised to see Signorello listed as omitted on the VFL website, given that he's in the leadership group, although of course after round 1 it wasn't surprising to see some changes made to the forward lines, and I expect more for our next game. I did think Max Rider showed enough to get another chance despite not scoring. Not sure how much improvement we can expect up forward this season, but hopefully there's something the coaches can change to improve things somewhat. We'll see....

I feel Signirello is a good player but will not be remembered for consistency. Their were several players past few seasons that I feel had a spot in the side even if they played inconsistent, the message being sent so far from Macca is be on your toes otherwise changes will be made- a message I like as it prevents complacency. I feel our weakest part of recruitment was our forward line, too late now but port should go hard at trying to secure a couple of league leading forwards next season. I like Farrant and I’m sure their will be times that Sigs and Manton will shine but how long for is guess work, need them performing consistently and who knows with the new coaching panel perhaps they can take their game to another level.

Port Melbourne will be without Fraser Rosman next game, after he took the early plea to rough conduct.

The same goes for Deakyn Smith from the Scorpions (1 match).

Oliver Seston also from Casey got a reprimand for tripping.

Pretty sure those are the suspensions from the practice matches (hence Rosman's round 1 absence). The ones labelled March 28-30 don't show any reports for Port Melbourne players, just a fine to Samson Ryan (Richmond) and reprimands to Will Setterfield (Essendon) and Jack Riding (Werribee).

ETA: replying also to MegaA above, yes, agreed that it's very good to see McCartney evidently looking to enforce higher standards for consistency. That should bear fruit long term even though there aren't obvious great options up forward right now.
