200cm teen makes electric return in VFL scratch match

https://www.afl.com.au/news/651081/200cm-teen-makes-electric-return-in-v...

Not that it was ever a level playing field, but its a real setback for VFL clubs to be prohibited from training together, when AFL clubs are able to put together praccy matches!

Typical of arrogant afl. Could have no vfl and local footy for a few more weeks yet. Another 22 cases today. Not convinced the 7 day l lockdown will be just 7 days. They could easily extend a further 2 weeks if numbers grow. You might find some leagues might get another round or two in for home and away games  then head straight in to finals. Vfl might be in same boat.

Why are the afl allowed scratch matches ? That is definitely not a reason to leave the house in a lockdown. Are they exempt?? Absolute utter garbage that north Melbourne was allowed to play in a scratch match.

AFL Victoria remains committed to crowning both VFL and VFLW premiers for season 2021.

COVID-19 lockdowns across the country are causing a challenge to the fixturing of the VFL season, but the competition will resume as soon as permitted – starting with three games in Queensland this weekend.

Premiership contenders Southport will host Essendon, with the Bombers’ squad having remained in Queensland for its AFL commitments, while finals contender GWS will take on the Brisbane Lions and Aspley will play Gold Coast.

"We will continue to liaise with all clubs and make decisions that ensure the season can progress when it is safe to do so.

"A fair balance of home versus away games and match-ups is a challenge for the remainder of the season, but the priority is to play matches.

"A number of scenarios are on the table and we are working with all clubs to deliver a season and play a Grand Final. There were six rounds still to be played when Victoria headed back into lockdown last week, with Tuesday’s extension meaning there would again be no matches in the state this weekend.

Salter said the focus was on playing as many home-and-away games as possible before starting a finals series and rewarding the best team with the 2021 VFL premiership.

If the finals were to remain four weeks in duration, there would be five weeks at most to get each club to the same number of games, which looks more likely to be reduced further to 12 or 13 given seven clubs have still only played eight matches this season.

Salter said there had not been any discussions on how the 2022 season would look, with the priority being to complete the 2021 competition.

VFL MATCHES COMPLETED

10 – Frankston, GWS, Sydney

9 – Aspley, Box Hill Hawks, Brisbane Lions, Coburg, Essendon, Footscray, Geelong, Gold Coast, North Melbourne, Northern Bullants, Richmond, Southport

8 – Carlton, Casey Demons, Collingwood, Port Melbourne, Sandringham, Werribee, Williamstown

Hows this for a possible scenario, two sides from different states get into the grand final, during the week one state declares a lockdown- once ready to exit lockdown the other stare declares their lockdown. Unlikely scenario but just trying to illustrate how difficult, annoying, haphazard this year has been. I wouldn't care one bit if this mickey mouse competition was called off now and save us all the frustration of wondering week by week if we have footy to go to. Start again and do it properly next year.

VFA you mentioned that the extension may be further extended, what concerns me is that in my travels (im on the road all the time for work reasons) i am seeing a lot of people, definetely alot more than last years lockdown both on the roads and in shops.

Southport are a massive chance to play in the Grand Final which means you will more than likely see that happen with teams competing in GF are from different states.

Agree with your comments MegaA. Also it's not out of the realm of possibility that we will have two interstate clubs in the VFL grand final. If so, they may as well play it interstate!

Is the motive to ensure the Borough do not miss the opportunity of claiming a new record of being the first team to finish 22nd on the VFL ladder.  With 22 teams in the comp it is not going  to be easy to win the 'spoon..
