FEROCIOUS tackling was behind Frankston's stirring 18-point win over the Coburg Tigers on Saturday.

The relentless Dolphins laid 93 tackles to wear down a Tigers side that contained 12 Richmond players.

"The pressure for the whole day was excellent," Frankston coach Simon Goosey said. "We had 93 tackles for the day and if you are up near 80 you are doing a pretty good job, so to have 93 was outstanding."

The win, which ended a six-game losing streak, continued the Dolphins' remarkable recent record against Coburg.

Frankston's five wins in the past three seasons have all been against Coburg.

Is Coburg the Dolphins' bunnies? Yep, you'd have to say so.

"I don't know what it is," Goosey said.

At Coburg City Oval, Frankston started well, outscoring the Tigers 3.1 to 0.2 in the first term.

But the Dolphins set up victory in the second term when, against the wind, they kept the Tigers goalless.

Frankston's backline set the example with a determined, superb display, led by Dylan Van Unen, Jarrod Irving and Leigh Osborne.

The midfield also shone, with Kyle Martin gathering 31 touches and Shane Hockey and Mitch Bosward hard and hungry.

Goosey insists Frankston (13th, 2-14-1) has taken steps forward this season. "We've definitely shown improvement, we run games out," he said.

Coburg Tigers 0.2, 0.5, 2.8, 3.11 (29) Frankston 3.1, 3.1, 6.2, 7.5 (47).
