Port Melbourne 2026 list changes
Body:

Re-signings:

Luca Alessio, Kaine Baldwin, Dom Bedendo, Charlie Clarke, Kai Dimattina, Felix Dreher, Paddy Farrant, Matt Gahan, Roy George, Josh Green, Sam Grant, Tom Graham, Ned Hawkins, Tom Highmore, Tom Hird, Jack Johnston, Drew Lloyd, Archi Manton, Owen Mulady, Flynn Penry, Riley Polkinghorne, Lachie Rankin, Max Rider, Fraser Rosman, Michael Rudd, Jack Skinner, Josh Sparkman, Harry Stubbings, James Van Es, Malachi White

New signings:

Connor Downie (North Melbourne VFL, East Ringwood), Ben Hobbs (Essendon AFL), James Lugsdin (GWS VFL, Manly-Warringa), Hamish Morrison (Williamstown, Airport West), Matt O'Brien (Collingwood VFL, St Paul's), Jack O'Sullivan (North Melbourne VFL, Old Xaverians), Oliver Sestan (Melbourne VFL, AFL-listed), Josh Tovey (East Ringwood), Oliver Withers (Belconnen Magpies, GWS Giants Academy)

I've listed every club for which the new recruits played at least 1 game in 2025. Lugsdin is the one VFL-listed player who played primarily VFL. Sestan was AFL-listed and played for Melbourne's VFL side. Hobbs played 18 AFL games and 1 VFL game in 2025.

Departures:

Anthony Anastasio (Deer Park), Guy Barnes, Lachie Bond, Jack Boyd, Angus Curry, Jayden Davey (St Kilda VFL), Dyson Heppell (Collingwood development coach), Tom Hofert (Frankston), Harvey Hooper (Giants VFL), AJ Kuol Mun (Werribee), Archie Lazzaro, Charlie Lazzaro (Werribee), Will Martyn, Jimmy Miller (Balwyn), Sam Philp (Richmond VFL), Connor Riley, Matt Signorello (Heidelberg), Hugh Trigg, Tobe Watson (Wickliffe-Lake Bolac), Tex Wanganeen (St Kilda VFL)

I completed the list of departures by looking at last year's list and seeing who's no longer listed. As I completed the list, I didn't look up where everyone who's no longer on our list is set to play this season. Lachy Wilson is confirmed to have left to play full time for Heidelberg after initially signing; it looks like Josh Chatfield has similarly left (signed with Tooleybuc Manangatang) as he's not listed on our website.

I will update this post as more (re-)signings and departures are confirmed. It is a matter of great puzzlement to me why the word "body" appears at the top of this post, but I have tried three times to fix it, so it can stay.

Great work - your efforts certainly are time-consuming therefore appreciated.  On paper looks like a ok side, I think we all agree aa toi what we believe ia needed for improvements so i won't repeat, on paper looks OK but as Digs once said- you don't play on paper though.

Spiny, 'Body' refers to the body of text.. Its part of internal website. 👍

That's a great summation SpinyNorman. Gee looking at this departures does have me worried that despite decent recruiting, we haven't been able to cover significant experience and key positions.

I think we are now so close to the start of the season that its going to be difficult to fill those vacancies.

In recent years we have had had some midseason departures as well. I wonder if the club is looking to try and bring people on-board during the season?

Thanks, Mega and NorthPort. Yeah, as long as we can fill the obvious holes the list looks all right - but if the game were played on paper we'd have made finals last season, so I am firmly resisting optimism now.... I'm not convinced we really do have 5 list spots still open; I suspect there have been (re-)signings that haven't been announced. We know Bedendo re-signed but hasn't been announced, and last season there were signings that I am almost certain got announced at least a few weeks after they happened. [edit: mistakenly wrote 6 list spots, corrected it to 5]

Ah, thanks for explaining, NorthPort - I see now that every first post in a thread has "Body" at the top. Since the only threads I've started are ones where I used html tags, I thought its appearance meant I'd somehow messed up the html!

Well, the club has posted the VFL team on their website, although it doesn't seem to be entirely up to date - Anthony Anastasio, Matt Signorello, Tom Hofert, and Jayden Davey (who I assume is gone since he played with St Kilda in their praccy against us) are all still listed. Subtracting those four gives a list of 44 players. Josh Chatfield is not listed - if that's accurate looks like he left as Lachy Wilson did.

None of the names listed in the practice matches who aren't on the list in the first post appear on the list on the club website either. Not entirely sure how that works since lists were apparently lodged last Thursday, before the practice match against Essendon.

If the website list is correct (aside from the 4 names mentioned above), that would mean that Angus Curry, Guy Barnes, Hugh Trigg, Lachie Bond, and Will Martyn have re-signed. [Edit: added Martyn's name after accidentally leaving it out.] But I haven't updated the main post yet since a few players we know are gone are still on the club website's list, so I don't know whether it is otherwise accurate. It may not be since the announcement of Hugh Trigg signing with Torquay makes it sound like he's no longer at Port Melbourne. Haven't found any new information on the other four.

The club has updated the website! Fraser Rosman isn't listed there, but obviously we know he's still playing for us. Otherwise it looks up to date. Oliver Withers is on there as a new signing not previously mentioned. He's apparently a 19-year-old 183 cm midfielder/forward. Assuming the website is fully up to date now, it looks like we've got 39 players on the list with 5 spots still open. We have 30 re-signings and 9 new signings.

Possibly the late addition will be announced at the formal season launch this coming Wednesday.

Any update on Alessio?

On Alessio? As far as I know he's fine, just behind other key forwards for selection. Have I missed something or did you mean Rosman? I read that Rosman flew back to Melbourne with the team and says he's doing well. In other injury news, I saw this past Friday that Drew Lloyd has a shoulder injury and was still listed as being 1 week away from returning - guessing that's why he didn't play the practice games.

Nope just wondering if Alessio was on the radar at all.

Oh, sorry. My impression based on a brief exchange I saw on Facebook which is hopefully okay to reference here (unsure of exact etiquette for referencing other forums, will delete if inappropriate) is that he's just behind others for selection, as the explanation a supporter provided for his non-selection was good list depth. Definitely interested to see how he develops.
