METRICON Bendigo Bombers coach Adrian Hickmott is taking no notice of the Box Hill Hawks\' ladder position ahead of today\'s annual VFL Queen\'s Birthday encounter.

Heading into today\'s match at the Box Hill City Oval against Bendigo, the Hawks sit on the bottom of the ladder without a win from their eight games.

But Hickmott certainly won\'t be falling into the trap of underestimating the Hawks, who have lost two of their past four games by margins of less than three goals against sides in the top eight.

``I\'m expecting it to be a close game because last round Box Hill went with (top of the ladder) Williamstown up until midway through the third quarter and they certainly have blokes who can play the game,\'\' Hickmott said.

METRICON Bendigo Bombers chairman Ian Dyett is confident the VFL club is viable long-term despite the sudden departure of its third general manager in 12 months.

Jeff Brennan resigned as Bombers general manager on Monday night, just six months after taking up the role.

His decision to quit comes less than than 12 months after Matthew Allan resigned as general manager.

Peter Lodewijks took over from Allan as general manager, but he was then replaced by Brennan in November last year.

Lodewijks, who remains on the Bombers board, will return to the acting general manager’s role once Brennan leaves the club on Friday.

THE Metricon Bendigo Bombers' season has ended after a dramatic second-half capitulation against North Ballarat in the VFL's elimination final on Saturday.
The young Bombers looked on their way to a semi-final next weekend after they led the Roosters by 59 points in the fifth minute of the third term at TEAC Oval.

However, the Roosters completed mission impossible, kicking 17 of the last 19 goals of the game in the space of an hour to win 21.22 (148) to 16.15 (111).

It will be remembered as one of the greatest comebacks in VFL history as the Roosters took advantage of injuries to key Bombers players in the second half.

"In that last 40 to 50 minutes of the game we were just out on our feet," Bombers coach Matthew Knights said on Saturday night.

"We had spent everything, but I thought we put everything on the line and had a real crack at winning the game."

Bombers remain positive

From Bendigo Advertiser

ONE of Metricon Bendigo Bombers coach Matthew Knight's greatest traits is his positivity.
He is always able to take something a out of a loss and goes into every game, regardless of how much higher on the ladder the opposition is, confident his side will get the job done.

But Knights' positive outlook was tested after the Bombers had frittered away their chances of beating North Ballarat at Stawell in their VFL clash in round 13.

Despite having five more scoring shots than their arch rivals, the Bombers were beaten 14.11 (95) to 11.19 (85).

The loss left the Bombers outside the top eight, and it was at that time when doubts began to creep into Knights' mind about the Bombers' prospects of extending their season into September.

History shows that the Bombers won three of their last six games of the season to finish in eighth position, and ironically, after it was the North Ballarat loss that cast a seed of doubt in Knights' mind, the Roosters are Bendigo's opponent in this Saturday's first elimination final. "I was really disappointed when we lost to North Ballarat in Stawell," Knights said before the Bombers' hour-long training session at the Tom Flood Sports Centre last night.
