Delay in Port Melbourne New Building

Reading online this weeks Port Phillip leader the other day in the sports page it was stated that there is a delay concerning tenders with the cost of the project for new change rooms office space and social club.

Too right we know at Sandy how start dates are put back, contractors do not finish jobs ,don't turn up and just frustrations one after the other. Even when the money was there to pay them on time.
Then the weather doesn't help sometimes and so it goes on .
I am sure most contractors know how this can happen and undo many functions and plans such as official opening days etc.,
The Sandy By the Bay thankfully is 99.9% finished but many a time it was touch and go to make the dead line.
Good luck to Port and Willy hopefully they will not have the save anxious moments we had.

But it's a wonderful facility that you can be proud of Zebra, had a couple of frothy's in there at half-time of the Willi-Sandy game this year and caught up with my old mate behind the bar, Greg Matthews, NOT of yeah-yeah fame :-)

I haven't yet checked the new Sandy social club but will make sure I do in 2011. Will definately have an ale or two there. Yes there is a lot of stuffing around with councils and contractors. I hope both Port Melbourne and Williamstown will not be waiting months for some silly dispute or contractors taking their time and being slack.

Very disappointing news :(

I am assuming this means that it will be another year before works start. It will probably also mean that more VFL finals will be played elsewhere.

I might have to rethink my last status update!

Given the opportunity, I reckon the building should commence through the season to try and get it built ASAP.

Bad news for the Borough. The new redevelopment is now indefinitely on hold.

Due to financial issues, the project did not include all costs, and as I understand it, the council are refusing to commit funds to get the project up and running.

The redevelopment is essential for the long term viability of the club.

I'd urge all Port and VFL supporters to make some noise, get in contact with the media such as local papers and also contact the local council and state politicians. I hope to have a list of contacts up in this, or another thread shortly.

Since the AGM yesterday I have been trying to think of ways to get the Council to do something. I am furious that it is may never happen.

The Port Phillip Council have not spent any money on the ground for over 20 years - maybe longer so I need to check my facts.

They are willing to support the redevelopment of Murphy's oval which only got a new building about 5-10 years ago.

We need to get an article in the Leader about this so I call on all Borough supporters to make some noise.
