CLARENCE on-baller Brady Jones won the Lefroy Medal as Tasmania's best player in its 108-point defeat at the hands of the VFL on Saturday.
The 23-year-old was a standout with his attack on the footy and hard work for the home side through the midfield.

Jones said winning the Lefroy Medal was a great honour despite Tasmania's big loss.

``It is disappointing the result on the scoreboard,'' Jones said after the match.

``I thought the boys played pretty well and had a fair dinkum crack early.

``We tried hard all day _ but there is a different class in most of their players and their spread and carry was pretty impressive.''

Jones played SFL football for Kingborough last season before joining Clarence for the 2012 State League season.

He said playing against the class of the VFL was a massive step up from State League football.

``They spread in numbers from the contest both offensively and defensively,'' Jones said.

Delisted by the Tasmanian Tigers after being dropped for the Sheffield Shield final last season the former Tigers wicketkeeper said he was enjoying playing football this year.

But he hadn't given up hope of breaking back into the Tigers side next season.

``Everybody who knows me knows that I love playing footy,'' he said.

``I don't think my cricket career is over as long as I perform well in grade cricket and try to get a few second XI games.

``I think there is still a spot there if I perform well.

``If Painey gets injured I can hopefully get on top of my game and you never know what could happen.

``I have a real passion for football at the moment but I still love my cricket too.''

VFL captain and former North Melbourne player John Baird was the recipient of the Frank Johnston Medal as the VFL's best player.
