MOMENTUM is the buzzword at Williamstown.

The Seagulls' train was almost derailed earlier in the season when the side suffered four losses by single-figure margins.

But Peter German's troops will enter this weekend's VFL elimination final against Bendigo Gold with six successive wins, three of them by less than two goals.

Saturday's victory against Geelong was the Seagulls' third against a top four outfit in recent weeks, with Werribee and Port Melbourne also on their list of victims.

Western Bulldogs-listed players Zephaniah Skinner, Tom Campbell, Fletcher Roberts and Jarrad Grant were late withdrawals after being called up to the AFL side.

But despite that early setback, Williamstown led at every change at Simonds Stadium and claimed a rousing four-point victory, 11.11 (77) to 11.7 (73).

German heaped praise on his undersized defence, with usual midfielder and former West Coast Eagle Jamie McNamara filling in a centre half-back.

Jack Frost, in his first game after undergoing two hip operations, was also outstanding, while Nicholas Sing worked hard.

Captain Ben Jolley again starred, as did James Wall, Justin Sherman and Brodie Moles. "Everyone seemed to just make a good contribution at the right time," German said.

"We lost four players at the start of the game. That really put us behind the eight ball, not having a ruckman or a key defender.

"We lost a bit of quality. For the youthful and inexperienced side that we had; to be able to beat Geelong down there, it was good."

But German said he was bracing for the possibility of several changes for the final, a byproduct of the club's affiliation with the Bulldogs.

"It's hard to speak about confidence going into anything because you don't know what team you're going to have," he said.

"I'm not sure what sort of side we'll have next week."

The Gulls fell to a 19-point loss against Bendigo when they met earlier this season.

"I think they were in good form when we played them last time. At Port Melbourne, it's going to represent a different challenge again," German said.
