Ben Johnson's VFL stint well worth the punt for Geelong

BEN Johnson thought an invite to try out with Geelong's VFL side over the summer would at least give him a good grounding for another season in the GFL.

The 22-year-old Bell Park forward was surprised to be offered an opportunity to make the Cats' VFL list, having missed out at his previous attempt in 2006.

Tom Lonergan hurt as Geelong claims thriller over Sandringham

TOM Lonergan sent a scare through the Geelong camp yesterday injuring his calf against Sandringham at Trevor Barker Oval.

In a big blow to the 25-year-old's chances of earning a senior recall for Sunday's game against Essendon at Etihad Stadium, Lonergan was not risked after halftime.

An eight-goal haul from Ben Johnson, a 22-year-old tall from Bell Park, lifted the Cats to a three-point win, their second of the season.
