North Port Oval - First Stage Tender Awarded
Body:

First stage tender awarded for North Port redevelopment

Port Melbourne Football Club president Peter Bromley has welcomed the decision by the Port Phillip City Council (at its meeting held on 11 September 2012) to award a tender to renovate and upgrade the Norman Goss Stand, and extend the visitors change rooms, to 2Construct Pty Ltd.

“This project will set new standards for the provision of player facilities at sports grounds in Victoria” said Mr. Bromley.

“Teams will share showers with the provision of two dressing rooms in the Norman Goss Stand and two in the visitors rooms. This would enable the development league teams to move off the oval at the end of their game rather than sitting around in the cold and the rain.”

The project will also see Medical and massage rooms provided for visiting clubs.

Work should start in early October with a six month construction period.

Mr Bromley said the challenge for council now was to ensure that the works were finished prior to the start of the 2013 football season in April next year.

“On behalf of the club I would like to thank Sandridge Ward councillor, Cr Janet Bolitho, for all her support and assistance over the seven years it has taken to get the project to this stage” said Mr. Bromley

The club is expecting an announcement by Council later this month regarding the next stage of the upgrade project, which is the construction of an administration and social facility at the northern end of the ground with access from Ingles Street. This stage was tendered by the City of Port Phillip on 14 July 2012.

Port Melbourne Football Club is contributing $1.5 million towards the cost of both stages with AFL Victoria providing $500,000.
