Despite coming off an early season bye, the Bullants trounced a disappointing Williamstown by 38 points at Cramer Street.
On paper Williamstown coming off a strong win against Werribee looked capable of testing the Bullants. But after quarter-time the Seagulls skill level turned their short kicking game into a farce, with numerous unforced errors marring the second-half.
Carlton listed players Jordan Bannister and Trent Spron both played their way into AFL selection with solid four quarter contributors. Josh Vansittart was the best of the Bullants VFL list . Two early first quarter efforts from Vansittart set the tone for the Bullants who were generally better at winning contested possession.
Josh kennedy looked like having a day out early, but lack of match practice and the regular occurance of 32-34 players in one half of the ground halted his influence with Jason Cloke eventually being one of the Seagulls best. Julian Rowe and Andrew Williams [3 Goals] were others to play well for the Seagulls.
Heading into the final term six goals down, one could have been forgiven for thinking that the Seagulls would go for broke and try and 'win' the game. But the Seagulls just kept going wider and wider, giving the few souls out on the Mary St side of the ground their money's worth.
Two games into the 2006 season and the Bullants look like being top four material again.
Reserves
Didn't bother to check the fitxure so was surprised to see Springvale nee Casey run out.
Usually a reserves loss to Springvale would be doom and gloom, however it was a solid effort from the Bullants as Casey had the senior bye and used the game to play some of its senior VFL list and St.Kilda AFL players.
Really it was players like Mark Mc Gough who propelled Casey over the line. McGough was instrumental in many centre clearances, some that resulted in goals to the Scorpions.
Ed Clarke was clearly best for the Bullants, Ryan Jackson and Matthew Pell were also amongst the Bullants best.
