Casey Scorpions were crowned minor premiers

Casey Scorpions head into the VFL Finals as the team to beat after finishing the season on top of the ladder and with the minor premiership.

Casey claimed the minor premiership after a 30-point victory over the Box Hill Hawks. The Scorpions were trailing by nine points at the final break before storming home with six goals to one in the final quarter. Casey will now head into the finals series with the top spot and a big chance of achieving something special.

Essendon booked their spot in the VFL Finals series in style with a big 73-point victory over the Northern Blues at Windy Hill. It was a slow start for the Bombers with the Blues leading by seven points at quarter time and the margin was still close at the main break. Essendon piled on 13 goals to two in the second half to run away with the win.

Footscray put an end to Collingwood's 12-game winning streak with a 32-point victory at Whitten Oval. The Bulldogs kicked six goals to two in the final term to notch the four points with a big final term.

Despite Richmond had a strong 91-point victory over Coburg, the Tigers sixth win in succession, they were unable to break into the top eight. The Bombers win earlier in the day stopped any chance of the Tigers making the top-eight. It was a big win for the Tigers and a great finish to the season.

A goal to Andrew Boseley in the 28th minute mark of the last quarter saw North Ballarat steal victory from Frankston. The Dolphins led by 10 points at three quarter time before North Ballarat kicked eight straight behinds. The Roosters eventually kicked two late goals and pinched the win avoiding the wooden spoon. Frankston finished on the bottom of the ladder.

Geelong came out firing early to defeat Port Melbourne at Whitten Oval. The Cats kicked the first seven goals of the game and never looked back. The win saw the Cats overtake Port at 5th spot whilst Port Melbourne will finish in 6th.

Werribee Tigers inflicted more misery on Sandringham with a 20-point victory at Avalon Airport Oval. Sandringham will limp to the finals with their sixth loss in seven games. Werribee finished their season on a high with the win and finish the season in 11th place. Sandringham finish in 7th spot and will head into the Elimination Finals next week.
