The more I think about it the more I think it's a necessity to keep the VFL viable for attracting non-AFL listed players.
I know money is a major problem with players leaving for the SANFL and the WAFL, but at the same time there are very few aligned clubs that can guarantee spots for VFL listed players these days.
Why would a 22-23 year old player hang around at a VFL club when chances are he will not get a game?
I realise the 12-10 rule will upset a few AFL clubs, but tough. Will also improve the standard of the VFL Reserves.
