Good solid win for Frankston over a very competitive Coburg. At the end of the day the Dolphs had a little more class and polish than Coburg who are going places but are still pretty rough around the edges. Really looking forward to watching Tom Owens develop over the next couple of years (hopefully at Frankston). This kid is loaded with talent and when he bulks up and gets more games under his belt he will be a serious player.
It gets a lot tougher for Frankston from next week - the next 9 weeks will be much harder and will give us a better idea of where the club is at.

We fell asleep in the 4th after kicking the first two goals then letting them kick the last three. Better teams will punish us for that so hopefully they learn from it.
A solid win overall. Coburg have showed they're capable of playing well and will have a few more wins on the board before the season is done. Loved seeing such a big crowd in for a game between two standalone clubs that have had so much strife over the years, even better that it turned out to be a good contest. Hopefully it sends a clear message that the standalone clubs still belong here.
Geelong next week will be a huge game for us. All well and good to beat standalone clubs but the AFL reserves teams are going to be a big challenge. Hopefully we come out firing and if we manage a win against the Cats I'll start believing we're the real deal this year.
Mixed feelings about last night. It was a great occasion, once again the ANZAC ceremony was done brilliantly. Coburg, yes, they're a bit light on for polish, but they brought the heat, that's for sure. I was rapt at Frankston's stoic defence that limited them to 5 goals halfway through the last quarter and enabled us to creep away from them in spite of their effort.....the last 15 minutes was the Frankston of old - taking the foot off the gas and letting them come back. We were bloody lucky they didn't get closer, only a couple of clangers prevented the Burgers from creeping within 10 points and it would have been game on with 5 minutes left. I hope Jackson Kornberg reminds the boys to play out the 120 minutes, as this is the second time we've let a team kick multiple goals when holding a commanding lead (Port). I was rapt with Tyson Milne who is rapidly growing into the best rebounding half back I've seen at Kars St. Nick Burke was very lively up forward and looks dangerous as a small forward to complement Matt Johnson. Voss was typically reliable on the other back flank (he and Milne are the best half back flanks in the comp in my opinion). Blake O'Leary is thriving in the midfield and frankly made many Coburg players look slow and flat footed last night - easily best on ground.
I'm trying to not look too far ahead with the draw.....Geelong next week at KP presents a real opportunity to go 4-1 and prove the boys belong among the better sides in the comp. We threw the game away there last year after looking winners all night, so hopefully this time we can put them away. GWS are a concern, but they struggled to put a fairly ordinary North away up there yesterday. If we could pull off both and be 5-1......well, the lid is going to be in orbit somewhere :)
good win by the Dollies last night - i had one eye on the livestream and one on the TV from Adelaide - good and noisy crowd once again and the bongo man made it into the huddle after the game for the Club song, great scenes at Frankston
Gteat weekend for the club overall. Great crowd on Friday night for a memorable win followed by the girls winning at Mornington earlier today to cap off the weekend.
Cats won by 101 points over Carlton at Ikon Park today. Might be a challenge for the Dollies next weekend, good luck, cheers
AJ..Big call Milne up there with the best half backs after only 5 games. Not disagreeing at all, he has been playing very solid footy and it's easy to see why some good judges think he is unlucky not to be on an AFL list. Your post got me thinking about rebounding half backs, and for me, easily the best was Leigh Osbourne in 2012. Phenonominal season - so good he went at No2 pick in the 2013 Rookie Draft. Staggering to think that he walked in off the street and asked if he could join in training!
Second choice would be Dean Burnell, in my mind the most underrated player to ever play for Frankston. Very clever rebounder with elite hand and foot skills. I recall him playing full back on Sav Rocca one day, remembering Dean is only 180cm, and held Rocca to 1 or 2 goals, from only 3 or 4 kicks for the day.
Other notables, not really rebounders though, would be Ash Roberts, Damien Clarke, and Simon Goosey who won a club B&F playing half back.
Going back even further, John Parker who I regard as the best player to play for Frankston, played CHB, but he was a marking machine, not really a rebounding player - played more in the style of an Alex Rance. He finished up being drafted by the Brisbane Bears.
But I do agree, Milne and Voss are getting up there with the best.
Neil Winterton averaged over 30 possessions per game as a rebounding defender under Brett Lovett, he would be right up there too. Opposition teams lost a forward each week because they had to tag him.
Ok, you blokes definitely give me food for thought there......Osborne was just coming to the top of his game when we lost him to Gold Coast, so we really had only the one season of him starring, but yes he was very good. Whatever happened to him after GC?
Burnell was definitely a star, I remember his bullocking runs vividly back in the day.....and yes Neil Winterton was terrific over many seasons. I should clarify that I am rating Milne and Voss more as a one-two punch than I am rating them individually. We did have the two Newman boys playing across half back for a brief period before Nic was drafted, and they were awesome together too.
Neil Winterton was a class player for sure. I always thought he was more of a midfielder...Paul, did he have a brother play for Frankston? My memory is not as young as it used to be..
Osbourne went to Port Melbourne after GCS, and then back to the Eastern League I think.
Yeah Neil played plenty of midfield, but had a three-year patch there where he played down back and dominated. His cousin Mark also played for the Dolphs.
Really liked Neil as a player - loved the way he would run to the square and provide a block for the leading forward. Huge value to the team little things like that..
