Innovations for next year...
Body:
Just thought that the Saturday before the grand final, on the ABC, shaky i know, they could do a "that was the year" program. Just play Mark Slokam's half time wraps, it's all there, and after every 3-4 rounds, cross to Pete Donegan, maybe Marty Stillman and a player or two to comment. Do your mark and goal of the year there, get some celebrity tips for the Grand Final, you could possibly roll this all into an hours program, 2 would be better. Would also LOVE to see a page...JUST one, in the Herald-Sun, devoted to VFL every Monday. You could have Ladders for seniors and reserves at the bottom, with goalkickers and next weeks matches, have the match results and crowds, perhaps 2 articles, one a round review, the other more comp focused, and a couple of carefully selected photos, shots with fans in the background. Similar to the summing up page the AFL has every Monday, results, ladder, injuries etc. In Adelaide, the SANFL gets treated like a footy comp, with proper reports, pics, stats and such, i know we couldn't have what they've got, but when i was over there last year, i thought it was great. Also... i'm ranting, i think crowd figures are important. Even if it is 760 at Nth.Ballarat, there seems to be such a smoke screen around crowd figures, how hard is it seriously, to count the number of people walking through a gate? Why the estimates? Are we ashamed of low crowd figures. Be open about it, none of this approx. 2000 at Bendigo, does that mean that they counted, got like 1,600, and thought, oh yeah, roughly 2000, that looks better. I sometimes think that crowds can be undersold. Often it feels like 3 or so thousand, and you'll hear about 1,500. VFL, start taking ACURATE stats on crowd figures, study them, work out how to improve them, and don't be so secretive if you know what they are.
