SEAGULLS SPOIL NORMIE'S PARTY

Williamstown have beaten Frankston by 74 points in their VFL match at Frankston Park today. On a beautiful day a big crowd came to Frankston to help celebrate Daniel "Normie" Clarke's 200th VFL game.

It was a reasonable even first quarter but 2 late goals to Williamstown gave them a 15 point quarter lead. Brett Dore was carried from the ground with a knee injury.

From the start of the 2nd quarter the Seagulls dominated with Patrick Rose, Andrew Williams and Paul Medhurst running riot asa the Seagulls added 7 goals in a row. 2 late goals from Luke Clark and Ricky Morris reduced the margin to 44 points at half time.

Williamstown's dominantion continued in the 3rd qaurter as they added another 7 goals to Frankston's 4 to lead by 61 points at the final change.

With the game well and truly over the last quarter just petered out as Williamstown added a further 3 goals to 1 to win by 74 points.

DOLPHINS THRASH DEVILS IN DOMINATE DISPLAY

Frankston have beaten Tasmania by 79 points in their game played at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. Sunny but cool conditions greeting the players with temperatures of around 10 degrees.

The Dolphins got the jump on the Devils kicking the 1st 2 goals and from there the Devils played catch up. Frankston led by 4 points at the 1st change.

Frankston continued to play well in the 2nd quarter at one stage the Dolphins led by as much as 30 points with Marcus Margliani playing well up forward and Daniel "Normie" Clarke dominating in the ruck. Paul Kennedy was also doing a great job restricting Tassie midfielder Ken Hall to just 3 first half possessions. A mini fightback by the Devils late in the 2nd quarter reduced the margin to 15 points at the main change.

Disapponting news for the Dolphins at half time with Chris Oliver not taking any further part in the game after being taken to hospital having trouble breathing after a heavy hit.


The 3rd quarter was always going to be crucial and it turned out that way as the Dolphins came out with all guns blazing led by Brett Dore, Ricky Morris and Marcus Marigliani up forward with Shaun Pollard dominating in defense and big "Normie" Clarke in the ruck. The Dolphins kicked 9 goals to Tasmania's 1 to effectively end the contest as the Dolphins lead by 63 points at the final change.

Looking for a percentage booster the Dolphins continued on kicking another 7 goals in the final quarter to Tasmania's 4 to win the game by 79 points.

DOLPHINS RUN OVER HAWKS

A 6 goal to 1 last quarter has given Frankston a gutsy 31 point victory over the Box Hill Hawks at the Box Hil City Oval.

It was the 1st time that Frankston have played at Box Hill since 2001. A fantastic crowd of over 4000 turned up in beautiful sunny conditions.

It was a very even first quarter with the Hawks taking a slender 1 point advantage into the quarter time break.

In the 2nd quarter the Dolphins added a further 4 goals to the Hawk 2 as the Dolphins midfield got on top. Marcus Marigliani kicking 2 of the goals in the quarter. The Dolphins leading by 13 points at the main break.

In the 3rd Quarter the Hawks dominated all over the ground but not on the scoreboard as they added 3.5 to the Dolphins 1.1 to take the lead just on three quarter time by 3 points.

With memories of last week's last quarter fade out, the Dolphins came out blew the Box Hill Hawks away with a 6 goal to 1 final quarter. The assault was lead by the midfield was was finished off by the forwards especially Justin Berry and Nick Benbow. Frankston finishing with a 31 point win.

It was a great team effort by the Dolphins today lead by Neil Winteton, Ash Roberts and Chris Oliver.

Injuries will test Dolphins

FRANKSTON has been forced to re-jig its line-up again for tomorrow's big clash with Coburg Tigers.

The stand-alone Dolphins (10th), fielding few stars and only one player with AFL experience - former Saint Chris Oliver - have defied the odds so far this season by being highly competitive.

But after recently losing boom recruit Damien Adkins (from West Coast) for the season following ankle surgery, coach Brett Lovett now has to deal with the loss of his main ruckman Ashley Eames for two months with a broken leg.

"He will be six weeks in plaster and then do the rehab," Lovett said.

"We have Daniel Clark to ruck and also Oliver who is more key position.

"Eames is a big loss but Clark is a seasoned player and given the opportunity he has shown he can make a big impact. He is very wily at centre bounces and around the ground."

The Dolphins have also had to replace last season's 100-goal forward Aaron Edwards and have relied mainly on clever small and medium-sized forwards such as Jason Berry, Ricky Morris and Tory Dickson for much of their scoring power this year.

Frankston fades but ends losing streak

FRANKSTON put an end to its three-game losing streak in impressive fashion, beating 2006 minor premiers the Northern Bullants by 13 points.

The final margin flattered the Bullants, after the Dolphins dominated the first three quarters and led by seven goals early in the final term before fading.

A perfect blend of towering size and crafty speed powered the Dolphins for the first three quarters.

While 200-centimetre pair Ashley Eames and Daniel Clarke dominated the aerial contests, the lightning Frankston attack of Ricky Morris ( four goals), Justin Berry (three) and Tory Dickson ( two) were simply too dynamic for the Bullants' defence. The undersized forward line worked beautifully, with local knowledge coming into play as the Frankston forwards continually drilled goals from long distance and almost any angle.

The Bullants are badly missing gun centre half-forward Digby Morrell, who has been sidelined since round six with broken ribs. Despite solid efforts from Josh Kennedy and Paul Colbert ( five goals), they are struggling to kick big scores without their first-choice forward.

Youthful Frankston upsets Northern Bullants

FRANKSTON bounced back to form with a decisive home ground win against the Northern Bullants yesterday.
 
The 13-point margin didn't do credit to the Dolphins, who controlled the match.

The Bullants rallied late in the last quarter but never looked like grabbing the points.

Frankston coach Brett Lovett has done a marvellous job with the stand-alone club with a list of players with virtually no AFL experience.

The Dolphins have had to replace century goalkicker Aaron Edwards this season and their mosquito fleet of smaller forwards was again a key factor yesterday.

Justin Berry (three goals) is an accomplished small forward and was well supported by Ricky Morris (four goals) and Tory Dickson with two.

DOLPHINS BEAT THE BULLANTS

After 6 weeks the Dolphins were back on the winners list after a 13 point win over the Northern Bullants at Frankston today.

After a very tight first 20 minutes the Dolphins slammed on 4 late goals in the time on period to lead by 25 points at the first change.

Frankston came out firing in the second quarter kicking the first 4 goals to lead by 47 points when the Bullants fought back kicking 5 of the last 6 goals to trail by 23 points at half time.

The Dolphins continued to dominate in the 3rd quarter but couldn't put in on the scoreboard eventually kicking 3.5 to the Bullants 1.2 to lead by 39 points at the final change.

Despite the Bullants kicking 6 goals to 2 in the last quarter Frankston held on for a well deserved 13 point victory.

Paul Rebeschini and Ricky Morris were outstanding for the Dolphins today as they help shut down the Bullants midfield. The play over the day to big "Normie" Clarke running goal late in the 1st quarter.

DOLPHINS SURRENDER TO BOMBERS

After a good first quarter Frankston kicked just 6 goals after quarter time and lost to Bendigo Bombers by 23 points at Frankston today.

Frankston dominated the first quarter kicking 4 goals to nil. It could have been better as the Dolphins had 135 possessions in the opening quarter.

Bendigo came out at the start of the 2nd quarter and domianted the Dolphins all over the ground as they added 7 goals to 2 and took the lead by 6 points at half time.

Needing a good start to the 3rd quarter, the Dolphins couldn't get that as Bendigo continued to dominate and Frankston became handball happy and couldn't get the ball up forward. By 3 Quarter Time the Bombers had set up a match winning 25 point lead.

The game came to a stand still in the last quarter as neither team were able to kick goals eventually Frankston won the last quarter 2.3 to 1.7 but Bendigo Bombers ran out comfortable 23 point winners.

Incredibly Frankston had 426 possesions (202 kicks, 224 handballs) for the game. Another disappointment was Marcus Marigliani was reported for Attempting to Trip Jason Cloke in the 1st Quarter.
