Port Melbourne season 2022 player movements

Its that time of year again,  Port Melbourne player movements thread promises to have plenty of activity as a big overhaul is both expected and fair to say much needed. For me the area of concern that needs the most attention is our forward line, season 2021 saw us being very competitive in our inside 50 count in  nearly all games but our inability to maximise those opportunities highlighted a obvious weakness. We obviously missed Jordan Lisle and Patrick Kerr its fair to say didn't step up to the plate, ad to that Signorello didn't perform to his high pre season standard. I thought Jake Gaspar after showing moments of brilliance in 2019 would be nice and ripe now but it wasn't to be. A obvious deficiency.

As well as the forward line I think it crucial to acquire a couple of key backmen, and a ruckman (has been a ongoing issue at Port), we got killed in the ruck this season.

Rumour has it that Lentini could be at Port next year, a great player and will be a welcome addition. My feeling would be though from losing two key personnel recently that the club is not in a position to spend big therefore ild be suprised if we can get several high quality signings, this is just my feeling, im not in the know and could be way off, for all I know finances could be strong but I think Digs is right on this one, it appears times are tough ( see Digs I do agree with you sometime albeit not very often) !!

Looking forward to seeing who we can attract, interesting times ahead.

I posted the possible Lentini move on another thread. I agree strongly that we need a big bodied ruck who will be able to compete at this level. In the few games we played this season, we coughed up first use of the footy time after time.

I will be interested to see what drawing power we have this year with the change if coach!

Digs most of your posts are opinions not facts - now thats a fact ! Examples - Northport hasn't had any improvements in over 6 years, MegaA you are a liar, Gary Ayres is not a good coach and should go - your last opinion eventuated, it'll be interesting to see if we do any better with a coaching change...

Anyway back to the topic of Port player movements and its rumoured that Wagner will be crossing the Westgate to go to that other side on the other side of the bay. Definite loss, had a great work rate and very involved in all games he played. The problems that clubs face is that I believe they are unable to sign players until November therefor we won't get official confirmation of incoming players for a few weeks yet, will be interesting to see if the older brigade will stick around (Jolley said he is still keen) - one would hope that they continue as they still have a lot to offer.

What? A Port player coming here? Seriously? Bruce Mourney would surely be the last Burra to front up at Pt Gellibrand and that was in the late 1980's. Been plenty go in the other direction - Rose, Galea, Brewer, Dukes, Kennedy just to name a few. I'm amazed that Ben Jolley wants to continue, he will be 36yo by the time next season rolls around, great player and great person that he is I don't think he's the future. COVID has robbed him of playing 300 games and matching Fred Cook and Billy Swan, it surely won't happen again in our lifetimes.

And more recently Wally - Conway, and Anastasio. Weve definetely got some quality over the years from Williamstown. Good on Jolley for not letting age weary him, not many VFL players have the determination to go through the heavy demands (both time wise and on the body) of being a VFL player and continue into their 30s. I think he can be a solid contributor again. When we were looking to fill the coaching position i think he would have been ideal as a playing coach or to transition from being a player to coach. I like the idea of VFL clubs appointing their own wether that be on the board, coaching positions or admin duties.
