HOW QUICKLY the tide of play turned at Eureka Stadium – North Ballarat built a 46-point lead then lost by almost six goals.

The Victorian Football League season opener on Saturday has given North Ballarat and fellow North Melbourne affiliate Werribee plenty to finetune.

ESSENDON has moved to ease tensions with its VFL affiliate club after Bendigo chairman Peter Lodewijks accused the Bombers of "paying scant regard" to the alignment.

Lodewijks' comments came after Bendigo coach Hayden Skipworth - who is employed by Essendon - was quoted on Wednesday as putting the development of Essendon's younger players ahead of VFL success.
