The tide is turning at Frankston, with the Dolphins scoring successive victories for the first time in almost six years with a 13-point win over Collingwood at Victoria Park on Saturday.

Coach Simon Goosey had a five-year plan to transform the competition's whipping boys into finals contenders and the results are evident.

Frankston knocked off last year's grand finalist Port Melbourne last week and held off a fast-finishing Pies outfit on Saturday.

The key, said Goosey, has been getting players drafted into the AFL system.

For three quarters against North Ballarat at the QEO last night the Bendigo Gold showed it has the makings of a good VFL team

The inexperienced Gold responded to a thumping loss last round and took it up to its country rivals, one of the competition’s former powerhouses.

Bendigo led halfway through the second quarter and was still right in the contest when it trailed by just 20 points at three-quarter time.

But the physical cost took its toll on the Gold in the final quarter, when it didn’t have any fit players on the bench.

WHAT is power? North Ballarat Roosters coach Gerard FitzGerald challenged his players to show him their power – in running, leads, attack on the ball, attack without the ball – at three-quarter-time last night.

The Selkirk Roosters showed their power in a 12-goal-to-one final term against Bendigo to seal an 85-point win in the Victorian Football League under lights at Queen Elizabeth Oval.

They booted six unanswered goals within the first 10 minutes of play and another five before Bendigo Gold could claim its first major of the term.

FORMER Crow Nathan Bassett wants SA's AFL teams to stay out of the SANFL.

Reigniting the Crows/Power/SANFL debate, the Norwood premiership coach says allowing Adelaide and Port Adelaide to field teams in the local league - either at league level or in the reserves - would rip the heart out of the competition.

Bassett says the Crows and Power should field seconds teams in the VFL, describing the estimated annual cost of $350,000 for travel and accommodation as "a pittance in AFL terms".

"They don't belong in the SANFL," Bassett said.

"I think they should both be in the VFL.

"If they want to field a reserves side, play in a reserves competition where it won't affect our league.

THE Frankston Dolphins have scored their best win in years, beating Port Melbourne by six points in a Sunday stunner at Frankston Park.

It took a combination of grit, brilliance and fight.

The Dolphins rejoiced as one when the siren sounded to give them a 14.14 (98) to 12.20 (92) win after a see-sawing battle.

Port Melbourne kicked the first three goals of the game to open up a 20-point lead at quarter-time.

A furious Frankston coach Simon Goosey marched to his side's quarter time huddle and roared, "work", at his players, believing they had loafed early.
