Just read this: AFL reveals details of Blues assistance package The Australian Football League has revealed the fine detail of its new deal with Carlton, where the struggling club was offered a loan of $1.5 million to continue trading, with conditions including the appointment of AFL Commissioner and former Blues legend Mike Fitzpatrick to the Carlton Board. The appointment of “Non-Wow” Fitzpatrick was warmly greeted by the Blues, however other conditions in the loan paperwork have begun to concern the club’s administrators. “The loss of our seconds team is a real blow,” said President Graham “Gorilla” Smorgon. “The AFL has insisted that we break all previous ties with feeder clubs and become closely involved with a team called the Fitzroy Reds. In fact, as of next week, Carlton and the Reds will merge to become the Carlton Blue-Reds, or, I guess, the Maroons.” Some at Carlton were so concerned by the change of nickname from the Blues to the Maroons that they already taken to calling the team ‘The Gorillas”, in honour of the president. Smorgon was also dismayed to see that the AFL had insisted that the new Maroons leave their traditional home at Optus Oval/Princes Park once and for all. “We’ll be training at somewhere called the Brunswick Street Oval, in Fitzroy I think. It’s not far from here, geographically, so I guess it won’t make any real difference. “A couple of the old Blues diehards were saying something about symbolism and wrong side of the tracks, but as far as I can tell there are only a couple of tram tracks, on Nicholson Street and Brunswick Street, so it can’t be that important.” [u]http://www.thebladder.com.au/content/news/displayContent.asp?CID=3579&EI...
