Coburg v Williamstown
Body:
It was a fantastic performance by the Tigers yesterday, to go down to Williamstown and take the four points on a day like that would go down as one of their better wins in a while. The Seagulls haven't lost at home since Round 3 last year. The games were played under terrible conditions, with a strong wind to the Fort end of the ground. Over the reserves and senior games, 48 goals were kicked with the wind and just 10 into it. That ground is renowned for awful conditions, its unfortunate it is such a blight on the VFL competition. The big winner with the conditions was Dave Rodan who as able to use his ability with balls low to ground and zip through congestion. He would have had over 30 possessions, and after Richmond's effort last night should walk straight back into that side. He is a quality footballer. The other culprit from Richmond's loss to St Kilda, Tim Fleming, was also a valuable contributor. I thought Luke Weller played alright, and you always get a decent game out of Leigh Carlson and Dean Talbot. Eric Kuret's developing into a very good VFL player, who covers plenty of ground with good running ability and is willing to stick his head over the footy. I'd say a good chance to make the VFL state side. Coburg's rucking department is interesting - Ryan O'Connor tended to be the centre bounce ruck but I'm not convinced that he jumps, let alone gets a hand on the ball. I'd be stunned if Ben Marsh wasn't back at Coburg within the next few weeks and he'll probably take over. One thing Williamstown should've watched more closely was Shane Tuck plucking the ball at boundary throw ins, you've only gotta wrap him in a tackle to get a free kick. Also, not sure where Warren Carlyle sits, he's a decent footballer but might have to become more key position if he doesn't get ruck opportunities. It was the first time I'd heard David Flood speak. Coburg were up at both breaks but he was very measured with what he said, and I liked it how he spoke about the need to continue attacking into the wind. The reserves result was disappointing, but that game was played in awful conditions. Matthew Rogers was running around in that game, as was Ryan Pagan. I wouldn't be sure the result reflects the difference between the two sides fairly. Point Gellibrand would make a great piece of real estate, but it is not the ideal location for a football ground.
