Body:
A bad knock for Frankston's legendary general manager. All the best, Bryan
Frankston Standard, Monda, December 15
FRANKSTON Football Club general manager Bryan Mace is recuperating in hospital after breaking his hip while playing in a charity netball game on Saturday night.
Mace, 72, fell heavily during a light-hearted game between officials from the Dolphins and Peninsula Waves netball club.
The game was part of a charity netball night at Jubilee Park to raise money for Frankston Hospital.
``There was about 40 seconds left and he jumped up and this girl took his feet from under him and down he went and consequently broke his hip,’’ Frankston Football Club’s newly elected president John Barry said.
``The ironic thing about it is that the girl who went under him and took him down works for the hospital, and he’s ended up in the hospital we are raising money for.
``So he’s done the right thing by the charity and ended up having to be looked after by them.’’
Barry said Mace was reluctant to play but did so in the name of charity.
``He really didn’t want to play but we convinced him that it would be a good thing for him to get out there and do the right thing by the club because we are community spirited here,’’ he said.
``When things like this come up he jumps at the chance and unfortunately he’s got injured.
``I think they were raising money for an ultra-sound so maybe they might even need to use it on him.’’
Mace underwent surgery on Sunday.
