Lucas Cook will make his senior debut for North Ballarat Roosters tomorrow.

The Selkirk Roosters last night named Cook at centre half-forward for their home clash with Essendon.

Cook, recruited from Melbourne’s AFL list, has been settling back into Eureka Stadium with the Roosters’ development team for the opening three rounds.

The former North Ballarat Rebel, from Hopetoun, was drafted to the Demons in 2011 and spent two seasons on the Dees’ list before he was delisted last year, without having played an AFL game.

WHAT is power? North Ballarat Roosters coach Gerard FitzGerald challenged his players to show him their power – in running, leads, attack on the ball, attack without the ball – at three-quarter-time last night.

The Selkirk Roosters showed their power in a 12-goal-to-one final term against Bendigo to seal an 85-point win in the Victorian Football League under lights at Queen Elizabeth Oval.

They booted six unanswered goals within the first 10 minutes of play and another five before Bendigo Gold could claim its first major of the term.

DEAN Towers. Heard of him? Probably not. But if history is any guide you can lock the 22-year-old in for a promising AFL career destined to materialise come this year's draft.

The jet from North Ballarat took home the VFL’s Rising Star award on Monday night, and a quick glance at the honour roll exemplifies how highly rated the award should be regarded.

Last year’s winner? A kid called Ahmed Saad who quickly developed into one of the stories of 2012 as he cemented his place in the St Kilda forward line much faster than his 30-step set-shot approach.

The year before? Michael Hibberd, a staple in Essendon’s half-back line.

In 2009? A dashing Werribee midfielder named Michael Barlow, who somehow slipped through to Fremantle in the rookie draft before debuting in Round 1 in Brownlow medal form.

THIS truly was about pride.

North Ballarat pulled off a one-point win against the reigning premier and competition benchmark Port Melbourne at Eureka Stadium on Saturday.

The Selkirk Roosters fronted up knowing their finals hopes had been extinguished in a Bendigo win the night before and that this season would be the first since 2003 the Roosters would not play Victorian Football League finals.

For the past two weeks, the Roosters had marked this match – regardless of finals chances – as one to play how they want to be seen.

They wanted to do the City of Ballarat, the region’s football and their supporters proud.
