Yep I also liked the Oaks and liked there style of play.My second favorite VFA team sad they folded so suddenly. Sandy and Oakleigh had some tough epic battles from the 1960s on with big crowds at both home venues the Beach Road Oval and Warrigal Road Thrashed the Zebras in the 1960 GF by 10 goals. Some Oakleigh stars I remember were John Coghlan,Eric Guy,Big Bob Johnson,Billy Barrot,Bill Jones,Derek King, Gerry Collins etc.

g'day Stanga(congrats on the big 500!),jb, zebra, radio & billy, ive had an account for a few years but only reactivated it a couple of weeks ago. Ive been reading VFL forums for awhile and im quite pleased that many of you share the same interest in the VFA/VFL, although i'd rather the VFA days any day! since the "alignments" began it has never been the same, I refuse to follow the box hill in its present form and although being a psychotic sadist (richmond fan), i just cant accept coburg tigers. Over the years ive made a point of visiting as many vfa grounds (both past and present) as i can to see where it all began for so many suburban tribes. Every few weeks im down at Kavanagh reserve (mordy) to watch the bloods in the SFL. Hmmm maybe some of this should be put into "introductions"! Ahhh yes back to the oaks... it wasnt until 93-94 that ABC decided to televise some oaks games after a lean spell prior to that, i had some games on video somewhere, oaks v werribee (shaun smith kicked 12 goals or so to get the bees over the line after being 8-9 goals down at 3/4 time, joe garbuio launched a torp from the goal square into warrigal rd for the oaks!) 2blues v oaks and another 1 or 2. Also was witness to a classic heath shepperd spray at the crowd in 94 after he was sent off at box hill oval.. from memory the crowd started giving it to him after he threw his jumper on the ground walking up the race. In the same game i walked over to the oaks huddle at 3/4 time to listen in and the oaks supporters were talking of ambushing the umpires during the last qtr!! Hardly a dull moment in the VFA! 1 thing many grounds lack these days are the classic "sheds", does any current VFL ground have a "shed" anymore?

I have a few Box Hill v Oakleigh games on video: 1984: Round 18: BH defeats Oakleigh to claim the minor Premiership (big crowd). 1984: GF: BH 32.23(215) defeats Oakleigh 11.14(80) to claim its first VFA Premiership with a record score and by a record margin. Huge crowd at Toorak Park, 11,000+. 1986: Round 18: BH 10.10(70) defeats Oakleigh 10.7 (67) in final home and away game of the season to claim the double chance prior to sucuring 1986 Preiership. Barry McGhee (BH) kicks a miracle goal in final few minutes to give BH the lead. BH defend desperately in final minutes to defend the lead with Richard Murrie (BH C&C) leading the way. 1991: Round 2: BH slaughters Oakleigh at Oakleigh (ABC telecast). Shane Molloy (Jarrod's dad) coach of Box Hill, the late Terry Smith coach of Oakleigh.

sounds good mustang... might be an idea to transfer them to dvd to preserve them! i bought a device a few years ago that links the VCR to the PC but all i could get was picture but no sound - i double checked everything to make sure i was doing it properly... im yet to find an easy-to-use device/program that transfers VHS to DVD!

Asleep for almost 4 years i'll add something here, recently I walked past Warrawee Park and it's almost unrecognisable, the terracing and scoreboard/clock are gone, the Main grandstand looks more like a coach's superbox now and the smaller purple stand at the Drummond St end that doubled as the social club is completely gone! Why can't historical things just be left alone?

Totally agree. Most of the old VFA grounds are intact but some have had considerable change like Oakleigh. Northcote's ground is the same as is Mordialloc.
