It seems Tim Looby's indecisiveness may cost the Shepparton Swans dearly with the VCFL investigating whether he played the first three matches for Swans in the GV while under contract with Port Melbourne.
Today's Shepp News reports that the "charge came following claims from Port Melbourne that the 20-year-old was still a contracted player with the VFL club".
Looby, a Port Adelaide rookie in 2006, signed with Port Melbourne last November, then left for SANFL Club Port Adelaide before joining to play with Shepparton Swans. It seems that while he was cleared by Port Adelaide, he wasn't cleared by Port Melbourne until last week. The hearing is to be continued in a fortnight.
My comment would be that its a bad situation all round really, but it will be interesting to see what happens with it.
Is interesting that Port Melbourne are claiming he was a contracted player with them, yet he wasn't on their list. The VFL has list size limits, I assume Port Melbourne were on limit - so was Looby a Port Melbourne player or not? If so, can Port Melbourne be penalised for having a player under contract who is not on their list?
