GUY McKenna doesn't profess to be an expert on the VFL.
But the Gold Coast coach knows his team, preparing for a season in the Victorian state league ahead of its inauguration to the AFL, has done well to draw Port Melbourne at home (Southport, in fact) in this weekend's first round.
McKenna is aware the Boroughs have lost only one match at TEAC Oval since Gary Ayres took over as coach in 2008.
"Yeah, they're a terrific side and an even better side at home, so to get them away is an advantage," McKenna said.
"It will be big brother playing little brother and a big test for our fellas."
He was referring to the fact that the Gold Coast team has an average age of 19.
But Port will encounter some experience in the form of Daniel Harris, Sam Iles, Danny Stanley and Nathan Ablett, as well as Michael Code, 26, a powerful man from Sturt.
