Body:
I'll put the link to the article at the bottom of the page, but I'm going to give my two cents worth on the topic first.
There has been a bit of disappointment expressed with Stereo 974's decision to drop the VFL broadcast of Werribee and Williamstown games, but up in Bendigo the Bombers have actually told the local broadcaster that they don't want them anymore. I find this decision baffling. While they say the existing broadcaster conflicts with another station who sponsor them, no club should be knocking back media exposure.
Bendigo have been the VFL's laughing stock, formerly in the form of the Diggers and more recently as the Bombers. They have never played in a finals series, and last year the Bendigo Bombers actually performed worse than the Essendon Bombers VFL team of 2002.
Paul Barnard, the clubs new general manager, points out that "reducing the radio coverage will attract more people to the Bombers' home games". I'm sorry Paul, it doesn't work like that. In fact, you'd be more likely to get people down who listen to the first quarter on radio and hear what a decent game it is.
And all this is from a club with 250 members. I'd be taking all the sponsorship, community support and exposure that I could get. Yeah, they're really going forward in Bendigo.
