Box Hill Hawks

Was that a fat lady ???????

Guess so eh....for us anyway. Just want say how proud I've been of all the boys who've worn the brown and gold ( and silver !!) this year. In the end we weren't quite good enough to go all the way.Injuries to key players Alleway , Rix , Thurgood and Ball on PF day along with a short week's preparation combined to deprive us of the legs to run out the game but I think we'd have to admit that Port had our measure and the better side won on the day. Given all that , I reckon we can all sleep easy knowing the club gave it everything.

Geelong game this week...

Just a note for any Hawk fans planning to make the trip down the Hwy on Saturday for the match against Geelong. It is a curtain raiser to the Geelong AFL match and our game begins at 10.30am. Supporters will be admitted at VFL rates until 10.45am - after that it's full on AFL prices. As for seating etc , Geelong haven't been able to give a definate answer as to where you can sit/cant sit so I guess you'll just have to negotiate that with officials on the day. Hopefully this will be one of the last attempts at this hybrid version of footy timetabling.

'New' boys at Box Hill ???

This weeks ressies game against Springvale will see the arrival of three 'new' names to Box Hill. Michael Georgiadis will be making his long awaited comeback after acting as senior team runner so far this year while waiting for the all clear on his back injury. The immensely popular Georgie should provide some much needed leadership for our very young ressies side. Ex Melbourne Tigers basketballer Dave Smith will begin his attempt to switch sports at the ripe old age of 25.
There were a few of us who thought it might NEVER happen but the desperately unlucky Doug Scott will finally get back on the deck this week in the Box Hill reserves. Scotty's had a shocking junior career with injuries and just when he was finally picked up by Hawthorn as a mature age recruit , he did an ankle. Some 8 weeks later , he finally gets a chance to start the climb back to where he can put some pressure on the selectors at AFL level. In the meantime , geez , do we ever need him here at Box Hill.

Box Hill vs Willy

Another loss , but we're taking small steps towards getting it right. Some shocking kicking for goal really hurt us in the end , kicking 7.11 to 7.0 after half time shows just how many opportunities we had. Losing talls Josh 'Fergus' Thurgood (knee) and Simon Taylor (ill) early in the game didn't help our cause either. I was really pleased with the attitude of the group though. Andy Collins is working hard to turn this group of young suburban footballers and AFL rookies into a genuine team with a capitol T.

Box Hill's Cult Figure?

Who will be the Hawks cult figure this year?? It seems like there is a competition for it down at City Oval. Will it be little Kristan Height, who played a very good game yesterday, shows a ton of courage, gets to contests, blocks and smothers etc. Will be a popular player among the fans. Then there is Tim Harvey, the mullet man from St Bernards. What about Andrew Pugsley and Chris Wilson wearing headbands, it was a flashback to see them out on the ground again!

Box Hill new jumper?

From the VFL site:
New Jumper The Box Hill Hawks will unveil an alternate jumper this season. Predominantly silver, the jumper features a brown and gold V with a white horse emblem. It will be used to avoid a clash with Sandringham’s home jumper.
Should be one to see.
