Victorian Football Association History

Dandy Dollar Dash

Dandy dollar dash was a running race at half time in the VFA games,

Reminiscing with my relatives in the last coupl of days about Norman Yemm who participated in the races.

Does anyone have some good memories or a story on the races?

The VFA used their logo from season 1981 to season 1994
13 years in total

The Vfl used the gold VFL logo from 1995-1999
4years in total

The VFL used the grey/navy shield from 2000-2012
13 years in total

This logo of course was recycled & the former VFL (Now AFL) used this logo from 1976-1989.

What did the VFA use to distinguish itself pre 1981?

Stand alone Northern Bullants last win.

One for the archives Age article on game between Northern Bullants and Murray Kangaroos played on Sunday 23rd June 2002 at Coburg.

The Bullants entered the game in the 8, even though they won they dropped a position as Williamstown who were 9th went won against Bendigo and went into 8th. This was the Bullants 4th win a row and was to be their last as a stand alone club. Great game, article doesn't have scores but for memory it was a very high scoring game with the Bullants winning by 6 points, the article does say 8 but pretty sure it was 6.

Bill "Bomber" Wells dies at 92.

The Ballarat Courier, Monday 25 March, has an obituary on this former Ballarat FL player. It does not appear to be on the website. Mr Wells also played in Williamstown's 1949 VFA premiership, after starting the season at Port Melbourne. He also played for St Kilda, Richmond and North Melbourne. Wounded in the Middle East in World War 1, he was told he would spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
